Automobiles are status symbols. Private lots and huge car collections are the fantasy of many celebrity watchers. An inexpensive car is the way to go for some folks. It’s doesn’t have to be a clunker just because it doesn’t cost a lot. Less expensive can still be functional, and even fun.
A used car purchase can save a lot of money. There a much less expensive top model cars, at least when compared to the new versions. A new term has emerged over the last decade, pre-owned – to denote used cars that are of high quality. These pre-owned vehicles have even managed to pull some long time new car buyers into the used car market. Consider top model cars. A Mercedes or Lexus is so well built that even 10 year old cars can still be in excellent condition. Many people always buy late model used cars instead of new ones.Driving Miss Daisy immortalized this concept as Hoak, the driver, kept buying Miss Daisy’s used cars.
There are also some nice, low cost new cars. The Hyundai Elantra is a quality car under $12,000. A car like the Honda Civic weighs in at about $15,000 for one of the best engineered cars in the world. They get great mileage, last a long time, and retain original value very well. Cheaper cars are also generally less costly to maintain, and they don’t require premium gasoline.
There are even relatively less expensive luxury cars. The Audi brand is generally at the bottom portion of the price spectrum in the luxury class. Nobody beats Audi as far as engineering. A less expensive luxury sports car is the Audi TT.
Of course some people want cheap, cheaper, cheapest. They don’t care if the car is held together with chewing gum and wire. Teenagers often purchase such a car as their first vehiclePeople often purchase such a car as a first vehicle for a teen. It’s a set of wheels, and it gives them practice for a life time of practical mechanical knowledge. Be careful because an cheap cars can be busts. A car that constantly breaks down is no bargain at any price.
