Breeders Cup question for people who follow American dirt racing?
Are there any Santa Anita course specialists running in the major dirt races? Because of the nature of the surface I’m interested in horses who have already shown an aptitude for the course in previous races particularly in relation to the Breeders Cup Sprint and Breeders Cup Classic. Also Juveniles and Distaff.

Sir Alan, the synthetic surface on the main track is new to Santa Anita’s Oak Tree meeting. The previous synthetic surface that was installed, the one the horses ran over on the winter meeting that started 26 December last year and ended in April, was an unmitigated catastrophe. It had drainage problems. It had problems with the asphalt subsurface. It caused the cancellation of several days of racing.
During the winter meet, the Santa Anita track superintendent worked with several experts in synthetic tracks to salvage the meeting, and ultimately they did manage to get a workable surface, but after much consideration and consultation, the decision was made to scrap the whole track, from surface all the way down to the asphalt, and start all over again.
The new track was opened to work-outs just before the Oak Tree meet started. The meet started on September 24. Only horses that have raced since then have actually had a race over the track.
Frankly, there hasn’t been enough time for any horse to have shown a marked preference for the track. Several horses in various of the races have had a race over the track,
